Bariatrics is the branch of medicine that deals with the causes, prevention, and treatment of obesity. The term bariatrics was created around 1965, from the Greek root bar- (“weight,” as in barometer), suffix -iatr (“treatment,” as in pediatrics), and suffix -ic (“pertaining to”). The field encompasses dieting, exercise and behavioral therapy approaches to weight loss, as well as pharmacotherapy and surgery.

Overweight and obesity are rising medical problems of pandemic proportions. There are many detrimental health effects of obesity: Specifically, individuals with a BMI (Body Mass Index) exceeding a healthy range have a much greater risk of a wide range of medical issues. These include heart disease, diabetes, many types of cancer, asthma, obstructive sleep apnea, chronic musculoskeletal problems, etc. There is also a clear effect of obesity on mortality.

People may find it difficult to lose weight on their own. Indeed, it is common for dieters to have tried a variety of fad diets only to find that they return to their original weight or potentially see a weight gain after a period of time.

Although diet, exercise, behavior therapy and anti-obesity drugs are first-line treatment, medical therapy for severe obesity has limited short-term success and almost nonexistent long-term success. Weight loss surgery generally results in greater weight loss than conventional treatment, and leads to improvements in quality of life and obesity related diseases such as hypertension and diabetes. The combination of approaches used may be tailored to each individual patient.

bariatricsEver since the leaders of Xocai had started talking about the new weight loss system MXI was coming out with they mentioned Dr. Kennedy and the word Bariatrics. Yesterday I listened (and watched) the monthly Corp call and there was this image and for the first time I saw this word. I googled it because my leo.org could not translate it. The text above is what I found on Wikipedia.

With the Xoçai High-Antioxidant

Weight-Loss System from Xocai I don’t agree with surgery being the best solution. Even some of the people in my video would surely lose weight, start feeding their bodies with nutrition instead of empty calories and generally just start feeling better.

Too bad I don’t know anybody that obese. I only know people who want to lose 5, 10 lbs, make that kilos in my case :-))) though I’m not obese but carrying that extra weight up to the 4th floor every day, sometimes several times a day is a drag!

Get back to me if you know someone who wants to lose weight, even if they had been trying many time. No matter how much they want or need to lose. No matter how old they are. We’ll be coming out with the results of our clinical study soon, so watch this space!
