What Are Antioxidants?

Now, that’s a good question. I used to mix up Antioxidants and Free Radicals.

The prefix “anti” means against, in opposition to, or corrective in nature. In order to understand antioxidants, it helps to learn what exactly these agents oppose and correct.

Within the human body, millions of processes are occurring at all times. These processes require oxygen. Unfortunately, that same life-giving oxygen can create substances, which cause cell damage and lead to chronic disease. Ouch. Do you know someone with a chronic disease or chronic pain? I sure do.

Oxidants, commonly known as “free radicals,” are also introduced through external sources, such as exposure to the sun, radiation and pollution. Other mediums include stress, elevated blood sugars, as well as things that people put into their bodies, such as alcoholic beverages, unhealthy foods and cigarette smoke.

apfel apple antioxidant free radicals rustIn much the same way as oxidation creates rust (look at an apple cut in half after half an hour), causing a breakdown on the surface of inanimate objects, oxidation inside the body causes a breakdown of cells. Free radicals produced by this breakdown attack healthy cells, usually DNA as well as proteins and fats. This chain of events can weaken immunological functions, as well as speeding up the aging process. It is also linked to several diseases, such as cataracts, various forms of cancer and heart disease. And, some studies indicate possible links to arthritis and several other chronic conditions.

Antioxidants, or anti-oxidation agents, reduce the effect of dangerous oxidants by binding together with these harmful molecules, decreasing their destructive power. Antioxidants can also help repair damage already sustained by cells.

Aztec Currency

chocolate aztekIn ancient times Aztecs used cacao called Xocolatl as a currency, now with Xocai we do the same. We kinda use the healthy chocolate Xocai just like a currency. A currency to more health.

Free radicals are damaging our health and more and more people and science realize how much more antioxidants we need. And Xocai delivers an abundance of antioxidants and flavorless and much more.

I have not lost that much weight as other people but others have noticed and asked me if I had lost weight. Maybe it does not show on the scale but on the looks. Also those black slacks I wear for choir events didn’t fit that tight as they used to.

This is a fantastic video that explains free radicals and antioxidants. I don’t think you need to take the test, if you don’t eat your daily dose of healthy chocolate yet or the equivalent of 10’000 ORACs in fruit and vegetables, you can be sure you don’t have enough antioxidants to fight the free radicals. Watch the video then get back to me so you can get the super-antioxidant, that coincidently tastes like yummy chocolate as soon as possible!

What are Antioxidants?

antioxidant foodsI always confused Antioxidants with Free Radicals. Both terms are usually used in the same sentence.

I always thought the Free Radicals are the good guys. They might be a bit radical maybe rebells but they are free.

Wrong.

Yes, the are free, the freely roam your body and because they miss part of them they go after the healthy cells and try to steal what they miss.

They oxidise your body. Let’s take a car. You would not be happy if your car was all rusty, right? You would take any kind of action to either get ridd of the rust or to prevent it! Why don’t we do that with our body?

Stress, food, water, alcohol, cigarettes, stress, bad mood, and the list goes on creates Free Radicals (remember, those are the bad guys). That’s why we have been told to eat lots of veggies and fruits! BUT! Yes, there is a but. But we cannot eat that much fruit and vegetables (and it would be very costly if we tried) to get at least 10’000 ORACS into our body – every day!

3 Xocai Squares or 3 Xocai Nuggets do the trick: a little over 10’000 ORACS. And who doesn’t like chocolate? Just replace the bad with the good. And get in touch with me so you can have your healthy chocolate tomorrow, too.
