What Are Antioxidants?
Aug 29th, 2011 by Xarah

Now, that’s a good question. I used to mix up Antioxidants and Free Radicals.

The prefix “anti” means against, in opposition to, or corrective in nature. In order to understand antioxidants, it helps to learn what exactly these agents oppose and correct.

Within the human body, millions of processes are occurring at all times. These processes require oxygen. Unfortunately, that same life-giving oxygen can create substances, which cause cell damage and lead to chronic disease. Ouch. Do you know someone with a chronic disease or chronic pain? I sure do.

Oxidants, commonly known as “free radicals,” are also introduced through external sources, such as exposure to the sun, radiation and pollution. Other mediums include stress, elevated blood sugars, as well as things that people put into their bodies, such as alcoholic beverages, unhealthy foods and cigarette smoke.

apfel apple antioxidant free radicals rustIn much the same way as oxidation creates rust (look at an apple cut in half after half an hour), causing a breakdown on the surface of inanimate objects, oxidation inside the body causes a breakdown of cells. Free radicals produced by this breakdown attack healthy cells, usually DNA as well as proteins and fats. This chain of events can weaken immunological functions, as well as speeding up the aging process. It is also linked to several diseases, such as cataracts, various forms of cancer and heart disease. And, some studies indicate possible links to arthritis and several other chronic conditions.

Antioxidants, or anti-oxidation agents, reduce the effect of dangerous oxidants by binding together with these harmful molecules, decreasing their destructive power. Antioxidants can also help repair damage already sustained by cells.

Anti-aging medicine, an important emerging trend in the field of healthcare, focuses on how to effectively fight disease, slow the aging process and achieve optimal health. In her latest book, “Breakthrough: 8 Steps to Wellness – life Altering Secrets from Today’s Cutting Edge Doctors”, Suzanne Somers outlines how each of us can take control of our health by making better choices in our diet and lifestyle.

Consuming healthy food is a priority. Finding the most nutritious foods can be quite a challenge. Raw, unprocessed cocoa, the primary ingredient in chocolate, is one of the most nutritious foods on the planet. It is loaded with antioxidants, including polyphenols, flavonoids, anthocyanins and catechins.

Unfortunately, much of chocolate available on retail store shelves has lost most of its nutritional value due to the use of heat during processing and the addition of preservatives, artificial flavors, fillers and waxes. However, Xoçai has made a commitment to produce the healthiest chocolate possible. Xoçai chocolate is cold-pressed and contains the highest quality raw, unprocessed cocoa powder from the Ivory Coast, along with Acai berries from Brazil and blueberries. Because the fermentation, drying and roasting processes are closely monitored, Xoçai Healthy Gourmet Chocolate delivers the optimum amount of antioxidants naturally found in cacao (cocoa).

Aztec Currency

chocolate aztekIn ancient times Aztecs used cacao called Xocolatl as a currency, now with Xocai we do the same. We kinda use the healthy chocolate Xocai just like a currency. A currency to more health.

Free radicals are damaging our health and more and more people and science realize how much more antioxidants we need. And Xocai delivers an abundance of antioxidants and flavorless and much more.

Ever since I heard about healthy chocolate two years ago, I’ve been thrilled by this. A wonderful product, a wonderful company and a wonderful team. Since over 1.5 years I’ve been eating it and I feel great.

I sleep better. I feel better. When I’m stressed out I just eat a piece and calm down, more importantly: any kind of stress produces free radicals…

And no more pains before, during or after my monthly cycle. No mood swings. I’m less tired during this time. And no more pain. Just for that I’m always grateful to Xocai.

Being in Switzerland it has not been easy but more and more Swiss partners are coming out the bushes so to speak. Also in Germany the supporting groups are growing and even the top leaders who are big earners, some of them million $ earners, and they do training calls and presentation webinars. It’s growing. It’s more and more fun and we get more and more support. For me the best company I’ve ever been with.

Get in touch with me so you can join and listen to one of those calls or watch one of those webinars. Get the information from the top people.

Have I mentioned it’s healthy chocolate?

Free Radicals

X Protein MealshakeFree radicals actually stimulate pathways in the body that convert food to fat. Fat cells in the body produce inflammatory chemicals which can prevent sugars from being utilized properly . . . so you wind up with higher blood sugar . . . which converts to fat. Each fat cell in your body is like a chemical factory set up to produce . . . more fat cells! What a horrible, vicious cycle! Antioxidant rich foods are vital in interrupting that unhealthy cycle.

The importance of antioxidants in a weight management system can’t be overemphasized because the process of losing weight actually releases more free radicals into your body than normal. Free radicals are those “bad guys” that are linked to everything from heart disease to cancer, neuronal degeneration and aging–aka wrinkles.

Antioxidants are measured on the ORAC scale. This scale measures how well a food mops up the free radicals in the blood stream. When you eat the best, antioxidant dense foods, you’re energetic, and you feel strong, focused, and empowered to continue to eat healthfully.

The new MXI product X Protein Meal Replacement is a high-antioxidant product. I have gotten 2 bags from a friend who came to my country. I am through both bags now I have to find someone else who either visits the US (not traveling) or lives there and is visiting my country – and is willing to bring me another bag and they are not small… 1.5 kilos 🙂

Of course we all here in Europe hope it’ll be available for us soon, too.

I have not lost that much weight as other people but others have noticed and asked me if I had lost weight. Maybe it does not show on the scale but on the looks. Also those black slacks I wear for choir events didn’t fit that tight as they used to.

Get back to me if you want to know more about this X Protein high-antioxidant meal replacement. Have I mentioned that it tastes yummy? Kinda chocolatey and I can add frozen summer fruits like any kind of berries. Reminding me of those wonderful summer days…

What are Antioxidants and do we need them?

This is a fantastic video that explains free radicals and antioxidants. I don’t think you need to take the test, if you don’t eat your daily dose of healthy chocolate yet or the equivalent of 10’000 ORACs in fruit and vegetables, you can be sure you don’t have enough antioxidants to fight the free radicals. Watch the video then get back to me so you can get the super-antioxidant, that coincidently tastes like yummy chocolate as soon as possible!

kopfhoererKerry talks to Paula Pritchard about the new weight loss program Xocai is introducing and she also explains Antioxidants – much better than I ever could.

I wanted to add the audio here but the upload is limited to 2 MB, so I had to upload it onto one of my other sites.

😉 you can also download it there and listen to it at your leisure.

Antioxidants Explained – an Audio

What are Antioxidants?

antioxidant foodsI always confused Antioxidants with Free Radicals. Both terms are usually used in the same sentence.

I always thought the Free Radicals are the good guys. They might be a bit radical maybe rebells but they are free.

Yes, the are free, the freely roam your body and because they miss part of them they go after the healthy cells and try to steal what they miss.

They oxidise your body. Let’s take a car. You would not be happy if your car was all rusty, right? You would take any kind of action to either get ridd of the rust or to prevent it! Why don’t we do that with our body?

Stress, food, water, alcohol, cigarettes, stress, bad mood, and the list goes on creates Free Radicals (remember, those are the bad guys). That’s why we have been told to eat lots of veggies and fruits! BUT! Yes, there is a but. But we cannot eat that much fruit and vegetables (and it would be very costly if we tried) to get at least 10’000 ORACS into our body – every day!

3 Xocai Squares or 3 Xocai Nuggets do the trick: a little over 10’000 ORACS. And who doesn’t like chocolate? Just replace the bad with the good. And get in touch with me so you can have your healthy chocolate tomorrow, too.
